I went to a Chinese New Year celebration hosted by the Families withChildren from China. There were some semi professional groups there as well as lots of school groups performing. Basically, it was a lot of the children singing and dancing in traditional Chinese style. I was disgusted with how the adults participated in these events. There seemed to be two prevailing attitudes:
1. That's not my daughter on stage so I won't watch and talk through the performance.
2. That is my daughter on stage so I am going to stand in the front of the audience (who were mostly seated) and take pictures so nobody else can see my child.
It was frustrating to see such a lack of respect for other people's children
