Beating up Iraq
Well, the conflict has started. It's not a real war. I don't think Congress has declared War on Iraq. What we do have is a mismanaged muddle. We were perfectly fine nickel and diming Saddam Hussein out of his weapons of mass destruction. The threat of war was the only thing keeping the inspectors in Iraq and when France decided that it was more important to be a thorn in Bush's side than disarming an aggresive despot (Hussein, in this case) then the fangs of our threat against the Hussein Regime was wasted, and we have to go and prove that we meant it.
Was nobody paying attention to the script? I support France reminding Bush that he is not the most powerful person in the world and that the U.S.A is not the only super-power. I think they pushed it too far and they managed to drag Germany and Russia into the anti-Bush crowd. Now we have to go to war. We have no option. I don't think that Bush thought much beyond taking the oil fields by force and that has kept his simple mind very happy, but we didn't have to go and fight. We were right on track with the "diplomatic solution" which was to disarm Hussein before he could cause more trouble in the middle east.
