Gay Marriage

I read the op-ed page almost every day and I am shocked at how people have reacted to gay marriage. One letterwriter asks "If lynching were allowed, according to the law, but probably unconsititutional, would we then go on lynching people?" How could anyone make this comparison? First of all the opinion that they are 'mocking' is that Gay marriage may by against the law, but that law may be unconstitutional. There's a difference there that the letter writer is confusing already.

Other letters have compared same-sex marriage to polygamy, bigamy, bestialty, and incest. Would these letter writers have proposed a constitutional amendment to prevent blacks from owning land? Would they propose a constitutional amendment denying women the right to vote? We just don't need to use the constitution as a weapon of oppression
