The Great Internet Conspiracy
I love a good conspiracy theory. I can't help it, perhaps its the writer in me. I was listening to Ed Schultz, who had a Republican congressman on his show today, and someone invariably e-mails him to complain that he is just a right wing mole. One caller started to call him a Republican shill because he won't discuss something called "Lennon murder truth dot com." I had to look. Yep, there's an website dedicated to some theory that Reagan, Nixon, and horror novelist Stephen King conspired to kill John Lennon and set up Mark David Chapman for the murder.
I am reminded of a web site about "Real Ultimate Power" about ninjas. The site is historically innacurate, sophomoric, and juvenile. The funniest part of the site are letters of reader feedback from readers who think the page is serious.
None of it compares to my favorite Internet Conspiracy which I am trying to promote: When did Garfield kill Lyman? Remember Lyman? He came to live with Jon Arbukle with his dog Odie? Odie stuck around, but Lyman apparently is decomposing in the cellar. It's almost as intriguing as what really happened to Chuck Cunningham on Happy Days
