A disturbance in the force

When I first heard about Doug Wead and some of his tapes, I only heard stuff like "Bush is a really great guy" and "Bush is OK." I didn't hear that Bush admitted to trying marijuana on those tapes. That fact didn't register until later, when the Daily Show pointed this out. I figured that Wead was just trying to promote his book and help Bush out. Of course, now those tapes are in the hands of Bush's attorney, so we'll probably never hear about them again.
The revelation doesn't bother me. I know Bush is a drunk, I know he did coke, I'm not surprised that he did dope. What bothers me is somewhere in the world the connection between Doug Wead and Judas has appeared. Jay Leno made some sort of joke about it, and a conservative letter writer in the Oregonian made a similar comparision.
For the record, I want THIS IDEA STOPPED NOW. First of all, Judas wasn't really evil. If we are going to believe that the same crowds that hailed Jesus as King on Palm Sunday called for his crucifixion on Friday and they did this because they had no choice in the amtter, then we can't put a whole lot of blame on Judas. But even worse: The more Wead is made into Judas the more Bush is made into Jesus.
That's a scarier thought than ever before. We're already living in an age where personalities have cults (look at Paris Hilton) and there is a cult of Bush corrupting our news and media outlets. We don't need anyone thinking that Bush is Christ, because I think Bush already thinks that he is the Christ, and he has too much power for a megalomaniac to have.
Think before you leap.
